Most electricians do not charge for estimates-bids-quotes yet some how they have to pass those expenses on somewhere in there business as walkthru inspections, Punch List preparation, Material Cost List preparation, and travel all cost time and money.

Specializing in Residential Original Wiring Issues

For over 42 years D B Electric has proven and won a loyal following of repeat and word of mouth Clients for troubleshooting and other electrical issues.

The D B Electric approach to these issues are honesty, integrity  and reliability from the very start of any contact with a new Client. We offer estimates but are very upfront and tell our Clients that a 1 hour minimum plus mileage will be Invoiced for credit card payment prior to arrival for this service. Also we inform our Clients that we do not want or need there credit card numbers for this service as Pay Pal is our secure credit card processor. This service protects our Clients and also protects D B Electric. Pay Pal even allows us to send any Invoice directly from their website for payment.

Here is an example of how this works for a typical customer. The day that the technician arrives for the walk thru inspection aka trouble shooting and issues. all information relevant photos, client's issues, name brand of products, ect is gathered for further reports to be written.  Usually for $35.00 the 1st report can be generated is called a Punch List Report of what's wrong and how to fix it, and for Client approval to proceed to the next report. Given the go ahead by Client to proceed a usually $35 Materials Report is generated with local (Home Depot, Menards, ect) store skew numbering for each part. 1 hr $35 min + $20 mileage, $35 Punch List, $35 Materials Report = $125. So at this point the Client knows to the penny how much the Labor & Materials will cost for this project. If they accept the Quote-Bid-Estimate submitted for Client approval usually these fees are credited to Final Billings Due Report. Just D B Electric way to say Thank You for accepting and conducting business with us. And if the Client does not accept our Quote-Bid-Estimate then we are not out the cost of time, travel and related expenses. By adopting and implementing these Quote-Bid-Estimate methods for many years D B Electric has been praised by it's list of satisfied customer base for the in depth approach to solving any electrical issue big or small.

In short the next time someone says that they offer free Quote-Bid-Estimate somehow something is not adding up as there are many cost involved to crunch the numbers to know what the repair cost will be. D B Electric would rather tell you from the beginning what the usual cost is and give options along the way for each Client. So if you need a free estimate read above or contact us D B Electric for a Quote-Bid-Estimate.

Thank You For Your Time!

Troubleshooting Electrical Nightmares Service Call's Residential

Basic electrical knowledge is essential hot, line, load. neutral, ground. Knowing what each part is and what they correctly should be used for. Well all that goes out the window usually when troubleshooting older residential electrical panel/fuse box locations aka home's.

Example here is 2nd floor bedroom lights and outlets ?

Troubleshooting 2nd fl br rm s1,lights,outlet.all not working. But 1 outlet in the ceiling is working for a lamp operated by 1 s1, yes a outlet is in the ceiling. But the 2 light fixtures are not working when the single pole switch aka s1 is operated? Other room wall outlets are not working either?

Discovered switched neutral meaning the light still had power with the switch off but no path to ground. Hum wonder what's up here? Client poor can not upgrade wiring harness it worked once make it work again. Well alrighty then let's look at the numbers Further discovery of original wiring harness over 40 openings on 1 20 /amp single pole breaker hum the plot thickens.
Panel box main location filled with 4 piggyback  hot, line, load. neutral, ground and amazement of wires here there and everywhere inside the main breaker panel.
Ok Client poor can not upgrade wiring harness it worked once make it work again.

Solution

4 new afci protected 15/amp single pole breaker. Rearranged
wiring inside main breaker location to step down highest amp cloest to main largest amp down the buss bar. 4 transfers piggyback  hot, line, load. Transfer above lods to new 200/amp sub panel  neutral, ground and amazement of wires here there and everywhere inside the panel rearage as necessary.
Clean the mess of wires here there and everywhere inside the main breaker panel. Then pigtail each original opening/device true serious tap wired to proper openings  (40 openings to 4 new 15/amp 1/pole afci breaker) this would take 1 new 200/amp 2/pole breaker to feed new 200/amp sub panel 30 space and transfer the piggyback mess of wires from main panel to sub panel with zero piggyback breakers as necessary. Ok now everything here there and everywhere  is true series circuit step down highest amp main on down and subpeaneld and new breakers as required.

My thoughts on this nightmare electrical harness and to make it work once make it work again  is that it's all in the numbers and they don't lie. Either do any electrical work correctly and consider also that safety from the start on down the line load neutral true serious circuit will provide proper #4 bare copper to earth ground rod protection. 1-room pigtailed according folded true serious circuit many more to go and All repaired. after many grueling hours of tone generating original wiring harness on to the next one boy's. Ok Client poor can not upgrade wiring harness it worked once make it work again

Electrical Building Blocks

Electrical Building Blocks

What we are sharing is information on how to organize and build any electrical inner structure in the form of building blocks as material funding permits. Planning is the key knowing what the final outcome needs to be before starting any project.

Knowing what the final building blocks are takes all guesswork out of over purchasing materials and cuts down on scrap waste. Example of this are it is always better to install conduit raceway systems before buying large cables at over $5.00 or more per foot for the of wire cost X 3 runs of wire 2/hots 1/neutral along with grounding and switching that may need to be considered also. After the conduit systems are in place you will know exactly how many feet of large cables are required for the given project? Working with others budgets can be tight and stages of projects may need completed in building blocks as funding permits.

The National Electrical Code/Your Local Authority is the minimum required for any given electrical project you can never go below that level of workmanship but you can always go above code with quality workmanship. It’s always better to do any job right the 1st time even if that means doing the work in stages as funding permits.

After over 40 years as a Master Electrician I have seen many projects that were completed by others that do not meet even the lowest standards of workman ship let alone the safety of others.

Others have called this Tinker Bell Wiring, aka old out dated and usually ungrounded electrical load centers in many homes and business.

The only true fix is a total 100% up grade and dealing with finished closed walls that cannot be fished with new wiring from below or above as fire blocks and old framing encounter all kinds of hick up’s. Leaving only what is called trench cutting the wall or ceiling surface. By trench cutting this allows wall studs to be open for the drilling of new wiring, boxes and devices. A good dry wall installer can easily patch these trench openings after all electrical work has been completed. This method of a building block that can save money by not having to gut every wall in the home or business for the update. A finished product is invisible and blended to look as good as the day that it was built or better.

When updating any project the time to consider every energy saving option available should be considered as in the long run it will lower the monthly utility bill or eliminate it altogether by using modern appliances like energy star rated energy savings ones on today's market. 12 volt dc lights have come a long way and are very energy efficient and also can be switched like ac switching single pole, three and four way. Lithium Ion battery banking can easily take your ac lighting load off grid and off the utility meter using solar and wind for charging. Also plug in transformers for all kinds of devices like cell phones, ect can be eliminated entirely by having the battery banking and a stable dc source. By updating older electrical systems many options are available as ac and dc circuits can be installed with wiring harnesses intended for each purpose.

Most electricians prefer open studs new construction projects but personally I prefer the old out dated and nightmares as there is nothing easy about these projects and each one has it's own set of hiccups and challenges. After many years in the trade I have consulted many to do these updates themselves saving the labor payment and by doing the labor they learn all about the line and load side of every device in their homes and business. For those who consider that just to much to handle send me a message and I will consult you on how a quality job can be achieved by local skilled labor in your area using project management from my business D B Electric. In short modern electrical building blocks added all together make a safe, reliable, clean electrical system 7/24/365.
